A little boy
I've always been good with my hands. I remember as a little boy we got these comic strips in color which came in the newspaper every Saturday. I would get out my HB pencil and my eraser and start copying pictures from characters such as Hagar, Dagwood and Snoopy.
About that time, my mother enrolled me in art classes. I would travel,
by myself, on the bus from the University area to downtown every Saturday
morning. I caught the bus a few blocks away from my home where there would
be snow on the ground. It would be bright out, not because the sky was
clear as it was cloudy out much of the time; but, because of the refection
on the snow. The old trolley buses with frosted small windows would bump
along for forty five minutes or so down the ice packed rutted streets until
I got to my destination. There, I would learn to draw circles and fill
them in with faces.
